How to create a printable photo sheet

Written for TidyCrop users who need exact exports without uploading photos to a server.

Sometimes you do not need one digital file — you need several physical copies on a single page: duplicate school pictures, wallet-size photos for family, or multiple small squares to cut apart. Designing that grid by hand in a word processor is fiddly; getting margins wrong wastes photo paper.

TidyCrop’s Print Sheet tool places multiple copies of your current photo onto one page layout using your device. You still choose the individual photo size first (usually with Crop & Resize). The sheet tool then repeats that image across the page within spacing and margin limits.

Before you start

  • A photo already cropped to the print size you want for each copy
  • Paper size expectations (TidyCrop targets a letter-sized sheet layout)
  • Access to a home printer or a store/kiosk that accepts your downloaded sheet

Step-by-step

  1. 1. Decide the size of each printed copy

    Know the finished size of one photo — for example a square suitable for a 2 × 2 inch print at your chosen DPI, or a wallet-size portrait. Convert inches to pixels if you are exporting a digital sheet for a kiosk (inches × DPI).

  2. 2. Crop and size one master photo first

    Use Crop & Resize so a single copy already matches the framing and pixel size you want. Print Sheet duplicates what you give it; it is not a substitute for getting one good master crop.

  3. 3. Open Print Sheet and choose how many copies fit

    Switch to Print Sheet. Choose a copy count the page can hold with the current photo size, margins, and spacing. If the layout cannot fit more copies, reduce individual photo size or accept fewer per page.

  4. 4. Preview the page, then download

    Check that faces are not clipped by margins and that gaps look even enough to cut. Download the sheet image for printing at home or at a store.

  5. 5. Print with sensible quality settings

    Use photo paper when possible, select the correct paper size, and avoid “fit to page” scaling that shrinks your carefully sized layout. At a kiosk, upload the sheet file and confirm they will not auto-crop unexpected borders.

Trade-offs to expect

  • More copies per page means each photo must be smaller or spacing must shrink — readability and cut tolerance suffer if you pack too tightly.
  • Higher DPI sheets produce larger files and need more memory while rendering.
  • Home inkjet quality varies widely; a sharp digital sheet can still look soft on plain paper.
  • Store printers may apply their own color profiles; that is outside TidyCrop’s control.

Worked examples

Several small squares on one letter page

Crop a square master at the pixel size that matches your print intent, open Print Sheet, pick a copy count that fits, download, and print. Cut carefully with a ruler after the ink dries.

Duplicate school photos for relatives

Size one portrait the way the school or family expects, then tile multiple copies on a sheet so one print run covers several people.

Wallet-size sheet for a team

Use a consistent portrait crop for every person (one at a time in TidyCrop), generate a sheet per person or reuse the same layout settings so sizes match across prints.

Troubleshooting

I cannot add more copies

The page is full for the current photo size and margins. Use a smaller individual photo size, or print a second sheet.

Prints come out smaller than expected

Disable fit-to-page / shrink-to-fit in the print dialog. Confirm paper size matches the sheet layout.

The sheet looks blurry

Start from a higher-resolution master, avoid extreme upscaling, and print on photo paper. Very large 300 DPI sheets can also stress low-memory devices while rendering.

Is this an official passport sheet?

No. TidyCrop helps you arrange and size photos. Official passport and visa rules vary by country and change over time — confirm with the issuing authority or a qualified photo service.

Limitations

  • Copy count is limited by page size, margins, spacing, and individual photo size.
  • Large high-DPI sheets can be slow or fail on low-memory phones.
  • No multi-photo collage from different images in one pass — one source photo per sheet.
  • TidyCrop does not guarantee print-shop acceptance or official ID compliance.

Common questions

How do I get the right print size?

Set the individual photo dimensions in Crop & Resize first, then use Print Sheet to tile copies on the page.

Can I print the sheet at a store?

Yes. Download the sheet and take it to a photo kiosk or lab, or print at home on photo paper. Ask the store not to rescale if you need exact sizes.

Does building a sheet upload my photo?

No. Layout rendering runs on your device. The sheet is saved only when you download it.

Can I mix different photos on one sheet?

Not in the current tool. Print Sheet repeats a single photo. Create separate sheets for different images.
